The Welcome Station, Untold Stories public art Worshops

Clients: The NO Collective/ GLA Funded

Budget: Circa 5k

Stages: 1-2

Challenges: As part of the GLA’s Untold Stories project, we were challenged to draw out stories from three under-represented groups to create a truly representative artwork for Romford’s main station. The project focused on well-being and mental health. | Status: We worked with YMCA, Havering Asian Social and Welfare Association and the Market Traders to draw out personal stories and memories with the ‘Romford Welcome Station’; A mobile conversation game. With the help of our resident performance artist we created a setting that allowed participants to share their stories, whether anecdotal, historical or deeply personal. These were captured in a shared piece of art to ‘complete’ an image of the station entrance.  The artworks and stories from 3 artworks then fed into the concept and feasibility study for a potential large scale artwork for the station entrance. We look forward to developing the next phase with our participants next year!
